Silk paintings, quirky buildings and atmospheric landscapes influenced by our Scottish heritage and my love of architecture.

Made in Scotland

Encouraged as a child by her mother and greatly influenced by her maternal grandmother (An artist by profession) Lilias drew and painted all that she saw. As a child Lilias went to classes at Glasgow School of Art and won many awards as a young adult working at that time mainly in pencil and oils, her rural upbringing providing her inspiration.

As a member of the Embroiders Guild, Lilias attended the Galashiels College of Textiles and was tutored in the art of Silk Painting. She was totally enthralled by the luxuriousness of the smooth silk fabric and the brilliance of the Colours. No other technique or material can produce such luminous Colours or magical results.

After taking time out to raise her family and pursue a career in finance Lilias took the decision to return to painting full time. Primarily self-taught she specializes in the Gutta resist technique giving her landscapes and buildings a quirky, quaint appeal, glowing in brilliant Colours and hauntingly atmospheric. Her inspiration is drawn from her love of architecture, her sketches and photographs and her travels throughout Scotland and Ireland.

The wealth of Colours that are found in our sunsets, landscapes, cityscapes and seascapes are a wonderful source of inspiration. Lilias is a member of The Guild of Silk Painters and her works include paintings, landscape scarves, ties, cards and accessories. She sells at various events and exhibits throughout Scotland. These include many Art Exhibitions, Charity events, Museums, Visit Scotland, National Trust and Galleries. Many of her pieces go overseas to private collections.
